"Color": 35mm Black & White film vs Photoshop (Gary Spangler) After pictures are developed and downloaded, they will be manipulated by hand using pencils, pastels, or in the computer using selections from the menu bar and the tools panel. Experimentation in drawing and painting will be introduced using available computer programs. Selected works will be matted for a portfolio presentation. $50 materials fee payable to the instructor. (2 graduate credit hours)

“Reading” Hand Made Books (Gary Spangler) Help students improve their reading skills by folding and binding traditional and non-traditional books. Ancient Chinese Proverb “Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand.” Enjoy the experience of combining book construction with literary material will encourage individual student learning. Designed for teachers in elementary, middle school, and high school or for personal enrichment. Selected books will be presented to the class. $30 materials fee payable to instructor. (2 graduate credit hours)

Art as Active Learning

Art as Active Learning (Chris Triner) Make a grade 6-12 visual art classroom a fully functioning “active classroom.” Methods of how to incorporate writing, brainstorming, response (critique), simple technology, and art history as a way to motivate your learners to fully understand lessons will be investigated. Look at how your lessons can accommodate your entire student’s learning objectives. Participants will have at least half of each class to work in studio to experiment with concepts. A daily critique of your own work and how it can impact your students will round out each day. Supply fee of $35.00 to be paid to instructor on first day of class. (2 graduate credit hours)

Jewelry Variations (Gary Spangler) Use paper, fiber, wire, polymer clay, metal, plastic, glass, and enamels to create unique forms of wearable art. Designed for teachers in elementary, middle school, and high school or for personal enrichment. Fabricated pieces will be displayed for a final presentation. $80 materials fee payable to the instructor. (2 graduate credit hours)
